STUDY: ATTITUDES AND CHALLENGES OF GIRLS IN RURAL ROMANIA IN 2021
02 April 2021. More than half of the girls in the villages were victims of verbal violence and 20.6% of them were physically assaulted. Mental health, lack of motivation, integration into society, isolation, stress and overwork at school, longing for parents and siblings who are far away, are just some of the challenges that teenagers feel.
The girls in rural areas in Romania have different attitudes towards many aspects of social and community life: they are very concerned about global warming and pollution, they feel respected and listened to in their families, but nevertheless they have witnessed domestic violence and they have serious concerns about how their professional future will look like.
On the other hand, young girls between the ages of 10 to 16 are worried about their physical appearance, about the fact that they may be excluded from the group of friends, relationships, education, school, the physical changes their body will go through, emotion management and verbal violence, as well as the impact of physical appearance on social media.
