CODE KIDS VS. GAMING: CODE KIDS ALUMNI SEE WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WORK IN A TECH COMPANY
CODE Kids alumni had a memorable teambuilding in Bucharest and Cluj – 22 aspiring programmers, graduates of the coding clubs organized by Progress Foundation in rural libraries in Romania lived for 2 days an intense learning experience and saw what it means to work in a gaming firm. Thus, they received valuable and insightful information about technology, communication and HR from professionals in the field, and they also played with the results of their intellectual effort. The main partner and sponsor of the project is Gameloft Romania.
In 6 years of CODE Kids, more than 4600 children from 32 counties, mainly from rural areas, have participated in programming courses organised in public libraries. In 2022, 110 clubs are active nationwide, with 1200 children enrolled. Alumni play a key role in the development of the programme and remain with the programme after the 2 years of technology courses, becoming volunteers. They are committed to passing on what they have received and helping to open new programming and robotics clubs for as many rural children as possible, because they know from their own experience that it can change their educational path and, indeed, their career prospects.
“Our alumni network is living proof that the CODE Kids program really works as we intended, giving rural kids a great chance to learn coding in a sustained and fun way, but also to develop soft skills and become an example in their communities. The days spent with corporate super professionals were filled with important content on topics of great interest to them, information they can put to use both to grow their program and prepare for the next step: choosing a career. And, most importantly, they were able to exercise their imagination and dream of the day when they themselves will be part of a large technology company. Thank you to Gamloft for joining us in an experience we won’t soon forget.” said Narcis Lunceanu, coordinator of the CODE Kids alumni network.
